PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT is a tough, high tensile strength, single component, moisture cured, polyurethane membrane. It is used as the high strength Base Coat or Aggregate Binding mid coat in certain of the polyurethane deck and roof coating systems supplied by Tufflex International, Inc. (TUFFLEX INT’L).

GENERAL INFORMATION

Basic Uses: ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT is the standard aggregate binding membrane (and in special situations the Base Membrane) used in some of the TUFFLEX INT’L traffic bearing and roof coating systems. Please refer to the pertinent Installation-Specification Data Sheet on each of these systems.

Limitations: The application rate and wet film thickness must be carefully controlled on this product. Containers that have been opened must be used within one or two days, since the product is a moisture-reactive material that will set up when exposed to moisture in the air. A polyethylene sheet should be used as a blanketing material prior to re-sealing the lid on a partially used container. Prior to the application of ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT, proper surface preparation procedures must be followed. Refer to the TUFFLEX INT’L Technical Bulletin on Surface Preparation of Plywood and Concrete Substrates.

TUFF-POXY 607 (quick dry solvent based) or TUFF-POXY Primer #3 (low solvent based) high performance epoxy primer/sealers should be used as necessary and as outlined in various TUFFLEX INT’L Technical Bulletins.

ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT cures faster when applied under warm weather conditions and high humidity conditions and slower in a cool and low humidity environment.

Shelf Life: Nine (9) months after manufacture when continuously stored in unopened metal pails at temperatures under 80ºF. Stir thoroughly prior to use.

Standard Color: Light Beige. Special colors are available upon request and subject to minimum manufacturing quantities.

PRODUCT INSTALLATION

Surface Preparation:  When  ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT is used as a base coat all substrates must be free of all contaminants and primed with TUFF-POXY 607 or TUFF-POXY Primer #3 prior to the application of ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT Elastomeric Membrane. Apply primers at a rate of 300 – 350 square feet per gallon.

Application: ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT is normally applied at a rate of 100 square feet per gallon, per coat, resulting in a 16 mil wet film thickness. If more  than  one  coat  is  required, allow  a  minimum  of  12  hours  and  a maximum of 48 hours cure time between coats. ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT is easily applied by roller, notched squeegee or notched trowel. Always follow by backrolling. Application should not commence unless the ambient temperature is 40°F or higher, and should not proceed during inclement weather. ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT is usually used in conjunction with ELASTA-TUFF 5000 Base Coat and ELASTA-TUFF 6000-AL Aliphatic Topcoats, as specified in the various TUFFLEX INT’L Installation-Specification Data Sheets.

TUFFLEX INT’L Accelerators may be added to ELASTA-TUFF 5000-HT to allow for a more rapid cold weather cure time. Please refer to the Technical Bulletins on Accelerators, or contact TUFFLEX INT’L for details.
